I just picked up a time capsule. I'm not looking to backup right away. Just transfer some music and videos over. just an example. a 700MB avi file took 5 minutes. This isnt right is it? 20min for a folder thats like 3gigs? what can i do to speed this up?

What client machine are you using? If it's airport extreme G, that would make sense. If it's N, it could be better, but N is suppose to be 270Mbps throughput, but we all know that is just stats and not real life speeds.

I'm on 802.11g. I knew it would be slower but I didn't think it would be this slow...

Well G is suppose to be 54 Mbps, but again, reality is that in most cases its more like 20-24. If you have a good signal with transmission power broadcasting for highest bandwidth and not highest range, you should be able to transfer 100Mb in 30 seconds or less.
