I recently tried to manually backup my 1TB Time Capsule to an external WD MyBook HD plugged into it via the USB port. The TC is connected to my NBP via a Cat6 ethernet cable.

Althought setting-up the WD drive as an airdisk was a sinch, the transfer speed from the TC to the Airdisk was HORRENDOUSLY slow (500gb took 12 hours!!!). Presumably because data needed to go from the TC to my NBP then down again through the TC and into the Airdisk (?). Would this explain it?

Is there a way around this problem to increase the transfer speed? Perhaps plugging the WD Mybook external drive directly into my NBP via Firewire800 would be faster?

Any suggestions? Is this normal?

Thanks,
