Today my macbookpro crashed. I bought a new one and wanted to restore from my Time Capsule backup. The TC is used to backup two macbooks Mac1 and Mac2.
Unfortunately, when I connected the TC and logged on to it, only one backup was found, of course the wrong one.
Using another machine I inspected the file system and I could see the two sparse bundles. It occurred to me that the file I needed was listed second, so I decided to try and rename the bundle from "Mac2" -> "aMac2".
A reset of the TC but no luck. This time the new macbookpro would not even connect to the backup machine.
I don't know why but I decided to try it the other way around, renamed "aMac2" to "Mac2", and "Mac1" to "zMac1".
Again a restart of the TC and hey presto, this time the new machine could see both backup files. I restored the one I needed and all seems fine now.
Yet, I am puzzled about the why and I am also a bit weary about the reliability of the backups.
Anyone has any idea what happened here?
Regards,
Frank
