I know I can add an external 1 GB drive to my time capsule, and have time machine do backups on that specific drive.

If I do so, can I still use the internal 500 GB drive of my time capsule for network uses? or Time Capsule is restricted in a way that it can either use the internal harddrive, or an external USB one, but not both at the same time (one for backups only, the other for a network storage drive).

Thanks

I took my Time Capsule back in favor of the AEBS with an external attached.

To answer your question - you should be able to use your internal TC HD as just a HD. But it seems to me you would be better off using the TC for TM and your attached external for storage.

Just me $.02
