So I'm on my iPhone this morning and notice that my wifi is down. I check my iPad and it's on 3G. My Time Capsule was down. It will not turn on for me. Did not have a power surge or anything. This is the first generation 1TB version. Reset button on the back does nothing. Any ideas? Do you think an Apple Store would replace it for free? It was working just fine with no issues whatsoever previous to this incident. Latest firmware and everything. Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem. As I have Apple Care on my MBP I'm going to take the TC along to an Apple Store and see if it is covered under that.

Sounds like a fried PSU. Common issue amongst Time Capsules, especially first gen ones. I just had mine die on me. It will be covered under the AppleCare for any of your other Macs if you have it, but I've heard of people that had Apple replace their Time Capsules even out of warranty. Just call your local Apple Store and go from there.

Took my dead Time Capsule to the Genius Bar. Guy plugged it in, verified it was dead, took a look on his computer which told him that the first gen TC has this known issue (power supply). Went to the back and gave me a "new" one (refurbished 1st gen). SWEET!

Found it odd that when he asked me my phone # and looked up my account for registration purposes he suddenly was very helpful. If only I could have looked at his screen. Hmm...

Anyway, my TC is up and working and is very quiet as well. Still heats up like an oven but oh well. They even gave me a new 90-day warranty. Awesome.

Glad to hear it went well :) Just a suggestion, and I'm not entirely sure this will have much effect in the long run, but you could try putting the TC on a couple of plastic spacers or risers. This will improve airflow around the unit and might contribute to a longer life. I removed the risers from underneath my unit when I moved houses and I'm beginning to think that was a mistake on my part.

took mine into regents street store today - all was fine. They are replacing it free of charge - but it will take a few days to get one. I think that must mean they are getting a refurb one.

I've used the regent street store a lot in the last few years, and although it is always heaving with people and really busy, the people at the genius bar are always really helpful and very efficient.

Seems as if the Time Capsule issue finally made headlines.
