is thee a time limit for keeping an activity on pause?

Yesterday I went on a 100km cycle. Towards the end there is a ferry crossing during which I put the activity on pause. When I tried to restart, the watch was displaying the watch face rather than the paused activity. Nothing I could do would Allow me to restart the activity. Opening activity app only had the “done” option. It would not let me swipe left to restart. I ended up starting a new activity which in annoying.

Question, is there a time limit after which a paused activity ends?

I’ve had some of my activities paused for many hours during a day, and then resumed without timing out. However, the watch screen is very sensitive, and I have accidentally hit the “End” button a few times, causing me to start a new activity as well. So maybe you hit the “End” button inadvertently.
