Time Machine and Airport Extreme Base Station

I just got an AEBS and I want to use it for my Time Machine backups. The only thing is that I cannot select that drive in the TM preferences. Is this possible. I know Apple has the Time Capsule, which is what I am trying to create, do they allow me to do this?
