Mac Pro took a dump earlier this week. I restored the boot drive (my home folder and other goodies are on a separate drive) and patched everything up to current versions as it was previously.

Noted that Time Machine had stopped working about 6 days prior. Hmm.

Getting everything set back up, including Time Machine, only to find out that no matter how I try, it won't mount a volume from the NAS.

The NAS connects just fine, I can browse using the Finder without issues. I had a separate account for Time Machine on the NAS, which is enabled for Time Machine use through its GUI, and it had been working flawlessly for over a year up until now.

So here's what happens:

I open Time Machine preferences and choose the NAS. It prompts me for credentials, which I enter. The volume is shown in the Time Machine preference panel.

When the backup begins, the volume disappears from the preference panel where it had been listed, and after a short time the backup fails with an error "The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."

Related to this somehow may be another issue I've seen:

If I attempt to navigate to the Time Machine volume on the NAS through a Finder window, when I click on the volume to open it I get "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Time_Machine" can't be found.

It almost seems like there is a plist file or something else in the system that's retained settings from the previous install and it's interfering with Time Machine.

This is really frustrating to me, as I can navigate to the afp volume and access the files on it without a problem.

Help?

Thanks,

MacDann
