Time Machine and the weird white screen

Time Machine seems to work properly -- it has made many hourly backups. The only strange thing is that it has no background animation (starfield? Nebula?) just a white screen.

I can see the windows scroll toward and away from me and I can see the UI at the bottom of the screen that says CANCEL and RESTORE. I also think there's a timeline on the right hand side, but it's very hard to see the light gray against the white.

I know this isn't earth shaking, but it's very odd. Any thoughts?

Sorry can't help ..
But I can confirm that there is a white coloured time-line down the right edge of the screen.

Thanks for the info. One small update, I reinstalled Leopard to see if that would take care of the problem, but it's exactly like it was before.
