I use TimeMachine to back up my entire iMac. I would also like to back up just my iTunes library to a separate portable external drive so that I can use that to update my Itunes on my various other computers. Can someone please explain how I might do that? Thanks.

Although starting with Mountain Lion Time Machine will backup to multiple drives, the backup set will be the same for both. So there is not way to tell it to backup everything to one drive and just iTunes data to another.

You will need to use Time Machine for the main backup then another tool of some sort to copy over the iTunes library. The app Carbon Copy Cloner would work well for this and includes a scheduler you could use to automate the process.
