we just came back from vacation 2 days ago; i checked time machine.
it says latest back up is delayed; then latest backup failed; next backup when disk is connected.

i have a WD external hard drive. i check to see that it is connected to my imac and is plugged in for electricity. restarted my imac--same problem.

there is no lite on the WD; does it mean it died? or what can i try?

is it less than 2 yrs old.

Is there absolutely no power to the whole unit? Or is the enclosure itself powered on but the drive won't read?

Same thing happened to me. I shut everything off. Walked away, came back, everything was fine. This was months ago and the WD has been fine ever since. I have no idea why it wasn't working or why it started again. UNLESS: do you have anything else plugged into your imac. My harddrive and camcorder can not work together through firewire on my old imac. It can't handle both of them at the same time.
