I have a flash drive that I use all the time. I save a lot of important stuff to it and want time machine to back it up. I look in time machine options and it is automatically put in the exclude list. I try and remove it from the exclude list but it is grayed out and won't let me. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Nope

Can't back up from external drives.

Have you tried creating an alias? Would it back up that?

If not, solution is to copy content over once every few days and have it backed up from the main hard drive.

TM by default doesn't backup extra external HDs.
But you can remove it from the exclude list if only the drive is format as mac.
TM wont backup MS-DOS or NTFS formated drives

I copied everything off, reformatted, put everything back on and it let me take it off the exclude list! Thanks!
