Time machine backup woes :(

Since upgrading to Lion I deleted the backup file and remade the backup. The backup size is around 270gb and the Time Capsule is 500gb. The initial backup went well, however now it won't back up as it is telling me there isn't enough space and that it wants 800gb, thats the whole drive even though I only backup a small amount of it. I have a feeling that file vault may have caused this as I only enabled it when I upgraded, maybe it needs to make a decrypted copy of the drive.
