Time Machine backups with twin drives

i have a 1TB external HD that i used to do TM backups for my 500GB HD. now that i have a 128GB SSD to go with the 500GB HD, i am wondering how to best set up the TM process.

can i use TM to backup both drives, or should i partition the external (like 200GB for SSD, and the rest for the HD), and have TM back up each drive to the individual partitions?
