Hi guys

Yesterday I needed to rewind Time Machine to retrieve a file.

Upon opening TM, it seems I have zero data on the Airport Extreme and the Time Machine icon in Yosemite says "Preparing backup for the first time" or something similar.

Scrolling through the timeline on the right of the screen shows no backed up data (the little horizontal bars which represent dates)

This is news to me as I've been backing up to this Airport Extreme for about 1.5 years from my iMac and Macbook.

May times I have retrieved files from months ago.

So - whats happened?

Luckily, I have multiple other backups but I'm curious about this.

Thanks

Happened to me once, and I fixed it. Don't recall how, but the answer is in here somewhere:

http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html

That Pondini site is a great resource. The answer is almost certainly in there!

I have some questions regarding your missing archives.
  • Have you changed anything major on your system lately?
  • Does another user have administrative rights on this computer?
  • Does anyone else use your login?

Is there a chance that someone else could have accidentally authorized a Time Machine reset?

Take some time to browse through the excellent website that ColdCase suggested. It should help you to identify and solve your problem.

Thanks guys

Will check out that link.

Nobody else in the house uses the Airport so it's a mystery.
