Time Machine Dates

Does anybody know why the dates down the right hand-side of my Time Machine (see screenshot) are only taking up a small portion of potential timeline space?

Most screenshots on the web seem to have the dates evenly spread across the entire length of the right hand side:

Any ideas would be appreciated.

because you need to get more backups
until you reach a certain number it will fill up

Either you don't have many backups, or the older backups were consolidated from a bunch of daily backups into weekly backups.

Cheers. Been backing up most nights for a good few months now... just surprised it isn't interspersed a bit more!

Well there's your problem, you dont leave it to do its thing. Leave it running with the drive connected and you will soon see it the bar fill up.
