Time Machine Error after ~6GB

Just got a WD My Passport. I've erased, formatted to Extended (Journaled). Whenever I try to run the Time Machine process it always hits an Error "Unable to Complete Backup" (This one) after about the 6GB mark. Any ideas?

It's not what you expect to hear, but try excluding folders and directories until you are under 6GB, then un-exclude directories so you have more backed up.
