I setup time machine on a laptop to connect via a open network and locally to upload time machine to a drive in my mac pro. However one day the back up being done was from scratch for some reason and the entire backup disappeared! (The back up is approx 300gb, the drive is 3tb)
The drive was no where near full could it be a problem that I have it connecting from remote locations? I have it setup on the network when I am away I can easily upload files from another location just in case since the data could be very sensitive if lost.
The os running is 10.6 yes I know old, but 10.8 was just released. Looking to wait till 10.8 is smooth than upgrade.
Hoping someone can help me to prevent this from happening. I prefer to do the backup locally than when travelling text files, and some images can be uploaded easily and without consuming my entire bandwidth. Over local wifi the file sync isn't too bad but takes about overnight to do 100gb.
