Every time it tries to back up i get this message:

Time Machine Error
The backup volume is read only.

I don't know how it got this way, i wasn't playing around with permissions. I check the privileges for the volume (lacie disk), and it says that my user can read & write. And I am logged in. I think?

Any help?

Is the external drive new? If so, has it been formatted for use with Apple's file system and then set up for Time Machine?

If not, use Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility to format it. Choose MacOS X extended (journaled) as the file system type (often called HFS+).

Nope, i've been using it for years with tiger, and now with leopard. I'm pretty confuzzled about the whole thing.
