I have at present a Lacie 2tb drive that is used by my iMac as a Time Machine back up, recently it has become full and stopped working properly, I then had to manually delete some old back ups tofree up space but this shouldn't need to be done should it?

I have now begun looking at new external hard drives, namely the LaCie 2big thunderbolt, the advice seems to be against using a raid 0 device for time machine as it will loose everything if it a drive fails, but as mine is currently on one drive now this won't make much difference will it?
It won't have anything critical on there, just Time Machine back ups of nonsense that is already on my Mac anyway, is the raid isn't a back up advice more geared to the power users who do more than "play" on their computers?

Mountain lion running on a mid 2011 27" iMac if that has a bearing on the advice.
