Time machine failing to back up to external HD.

After almost completing a back up to my Free Agent 500 GB HD, time machine fails with the message "Time Machine Error- Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
This is my second HD, so that's not the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem or have any thoughts on what to do? Thanks!

Time machine gave me issues too. Do you have a .mac or.me account? If you do, you can get their backup program for free and back up large things to any external drive, and settings, mail and such to iDisk.
