Time Machine freeze/never end backing up

I have a problem w Time Machine 6 months now. Both on 10.6.8 and 10.8.2
It starts to back up on an external FW-drive (2T). In went OK for a year or so. Suddenly i starts backing up and stops at a random amount og MB/GB.
Just deleted alot of old backups to create space, but no change.


Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
