Hi there,

I'm a relatively new mac user and I'm at a bit of a brick wall with Time Machine. I finally have all my files transferred onto my iMac from my PC and now that I've done that I've formatted my 2TB external drive with Mac Os Extended Journaled and a GUID Partition and set it up as my Time Machine drive.

Every time I try to start a time machine backup it freezes at 21.58GB. I've tried excluding my Dropbox folder (as I'm not too bothered about this being backed up for obvious reasons). The dropbox folder is 8.08GB in size and if I exclude this then the backup stops at exactly 8.08GB before 21.58 which is 13.5GB.

It's almost as if there is a file that Time Machine comes to and doesn't want to backup. I've uninstalled Google Drive as I've found this a little buggy and I don't use it. It made no difference. I've also checked both my Mac HD and External HD for errors and repaired both. Still same problem,

I've attached the system log for the exact moment when the freeze happens. All the other software on the iMac runs fine and it is only the backup that freezes. The Time Machine software itself doesn't freeze and I can stop the backup and start again only to meet the same problem at 21.58GB.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful!
