Time Machine headache

Okay, long story short. Had time machine working by file sharing on a Mac mini...it quit working out of no where...cleaned up the Mac mini some and have 400GB free. Time Machine will not back up to the Mac mini shared folder saying it doesn't have enough space...showing that there is only 38GB of free space.

I literally have no idea what to do next...help/thoughts? Thanks.

I created a shared folder on the mini that is shared via ".local" in Time Machine. It was working, then I must have inadvertently deleted the shared folder on the mini. Created a new one, added it to Time Machine as the disk, but cannot get it to register in Time Machine as available space over 38GB...when the Mini has 420 free
