Time Machine help

I'm using time machine and backing up my stuff, but are there options I set on it?

I can't find them, only if I want to turn it on or off, or exclude certain things?

where do you set stuff like when / how often you want to back up.

does it still back up if the computer is sleeping?

and I thought you could set it you backup like when you tell it to shutdown for the night or something like that..

Oh you have to download a separate program?

Can you set it to backup right before it powers down?

Don't know as I don't use it. I do all of my TM backups manually usually once a day or more often if I change a lot of things.
