First Apple...MBP. How can I tell when TimeMachine has completed its backup? I see no progress indication, so how do I know it is safe to disconnect the backup hard drive?

Thanks

When you see this icon in your menubar near the clock stop moving, it's done. Plus you can click on it and it will give you its status. If you don't see the icon, go to System Preference --> Time Machine and enable the menubar status.

Thank you...wondered what that icon was all about...

If you click on the Time Machine icon on the menu bar, you can select Time Machine Preferences (same thing as bringing up System Preferences, then Time Machine). This will then show you the progress of a backup.
