I don't know if this has been found or not, but in Snow Leopard the menu bar icon for Time Machine is grayed out when it is on manual. In Leopard it would be grayed out when not setup, but black whether its on manual or automatic backups. In Snow Leopard it even shows the gray icon while it is backing up unless its on scheduled backups.

the grayed out varies ...

I have the family pack and have installed in three different macs... The iMac is grayed, but has the same options and abilities, the other two (MacBooks) it is just as dark as mobile me, wifi, etc...

Time Machine Icon Grayed Out

I had this happen as well: 15" MacBook Pro (2009) with a family pack, while 3 13" MacBook Pro's don't have this issue. It has also stopeed backing up every hour...

Any ideas?
