I've been searching for a cloud-based option for time machine backups but haven't had any success. Is there any technical impediment to this being performed (aside from bandwidth), just a lack of demand, or have I not searched for the right information? I'm not interested in a manual option, I like the simplicity of automated Time Machine backups.

Thank you,

There are services that offer online backups (not TM). The Time Machine in its current form was not really designed to backup over internet. I suppose it should be possible to do a remote TM backup via VPN (thus making OS X think that the TM server is on the local network), but I don't believe that such solution would be very stable.

If you can backup your phone to iCloud, why not your computer? As long as you have that lavish £13.99 1TB data plan
