Time machine is backing up an encrypted disk to an unencrypted disk

When TM begins to backup it spits out this warning message.

"time machine is backing up an encrypted disk to an unencrypted disk"

Only its not! All thats being backed up is the internal 1TB SSD to an external spinner. Neither are encrypted, so what gives?

I do not have a 2018 Mini, but I know that it has a T2 chip which automatically encrypts data on your system whether FV is on or not. Maybe that is the issue.

Data on the built-in, solid-state drive (SSD) is encrypted using a hardware-accelerated AES engine built into the T2 chip.

Personally, all my Time Machine drives are encrypted as well. FileVault is on for SSD.

Okay, I wasn't entirely aware of this. I thought FileVault had to be ON.

So ultimately I just need to ignore this message? I do not wan't to use filevault. At all.

I do use CCC. But more so for recovery in the event of total failure, and only on Macintosh HD, whereas TM I use to back up not only Macintosh HD, but also external SSDs/HDDs all to one 8TB HDD.

CCC acts as MacOS only recovery, while TM acts as file recovery. At least thats how Ive personally gone about utilizing both. None the less, just one more reason my disdain for the T2 grows more and more with each passing day.
