time machine is saying less than a minute but it has been that way for over 5 hours

so i read to just restart it and then it should be fine. but it didn't add any of my **** from the time machine... in fact it wants me to still register and everything as if i just turned it on for the first time. ?!?!




did i mess up by restarting?
