All of a sudden,Time Machine has stopped enabling me to target specific backup dates. As per usual, the current window is isolated and brought forward, with previous windows queued up behind it. However, when trying to select from the timeline on the right-hand side, nothing happens. The animation works OK and the buttons next to the window with the up and down arrows work fine. I can open the Time Machine volume in the Finder, and all the backups are displayed and can be accessed in the usual way. My main internal drive is 1TB, the Time Machine volume is 2TB with 300GB of available space. Looking at the Time Machine "Get Info" window in the finder, the sharing and permissions show read only, but I assume that is correct. Rebooting doesn't appear to solve the problem. I avoid the animated TM window. For the reason you have given - it is often (but not always) slow when the TM disk is a HDD. It is better with an SSD. I nearly always use Finder.

And, yes, the TM volume and its snapshots are read only.

Edit: Your TM disk is 85% full. I keep all my disks at 75% or less for better performance.
