I have one of the new generation iMac's which I bought in Jan this year...it has the 3TB Fusion Drive.

My fusion drive currently has 1.18 TB of free capacity on it....so just under 2TB of OS, Apps, Data etc.

I have a 3TB external drive which I use to Time Machine back up's. The external drives seems to get full very quickly....I have been in the habit of deleting older back up's but was finding that I had to do this every few days.

So today I decided to start again....I wiped my hard drive so it was completely empty and kicked Time Machine off to do a back up.

So I now have one back up on my external drive.....but that back up has used just about 400GB more of hard drive space ?!?!

As things stand

iMac 3TB Fusion Drive 1.18TB free of 3.11TB
External Drive 622 GB free of 3TB

or to put ir another way

Fusion Drive utilised 1.93 TB of space
External Drive back up of the same 2.377 TB

Can someone help ? How on earth is the Time Machine back up using nearly 400 GB more for one back up ?!?!

Any idea ?
