Time Machine migration

Hey I'm updating my old macbook pro from my old hard drive to a new intel SSD and i was wondering if I can use time machine to backup everything off my old hard drive and recovery everything back onto the new hard drive after the fresh install of OSX. Is this possible? Is there a better way? THANKS!!!!
