Time Machine no longer backing up

Using 10.15.6. Time Machine says it needs some 600gb of space for a backup, but only about 300gb is available. The drive is a 6tb drive. Time Machine seems to have stopped deleting older files to make space for newer backups. Any way to fix this? Thanks.
