Time machine not backwards compatible?

I've got about 1/2 a year of Backups (Mountain Lion). When running Mav DP7, I can launch Time Machine, I can see the backup tabs.. but can't restore to any of them. Anyone been able to see and restore files backed up under ML in Mav?

I thought there was something in release notes about it not being compatible with earlier versions of OS X, or not compatible with 10.8.4 or earlier.

Correct, you can retrieve data and Apps but you can't restore to an older OS.

The way to go back would be to use your USB ML instal drive and clean install ML and then use Migration Assistant to retrieve the TM data, Apps and settings.

Not home either but I remember retrieving a data file that was pre Mavericks in an early DP.
