time machine on a network drive other than time capsule?

OK, I have been backing up 2 macbooks on a time capsule network,

and am installing a home theater & whole home wired network, for simplicity's sake, 1 wireless network will handle all needs except I want to continue the time machine back ups and need to know if time machine will work on any or some other NAS drive on the network?

if so, any recommendations or guides on the subject would be helpful...
