Time Machine onto Snow Leopard server?

Ok, so I really want a time capsule so I can do wireless backups. I heard somewhere that I can also use snow leopard server on a mini as a centralized backup location. I was wondering if the mini server would allow me to do wireless backups as seamlessly as the time capsule would and allow me to sleep the laptop during the backup without corrupting the data?
