I have found that since updating to 10.13.4, my Time Machine backup refuses to run. I have a 3TB eSATA HDD connected to my Mac Pro (3,1) 2008 which is running El Capitan 10.11.6. This is connected to my iMac running High Sierra over Gigabit Ethernet.
In Sierra and High Sierra (up to 10.13.3), I have had the backups running seamlessly over AFP. I have been using AFP because when I try to connect via SMB, the volume doesn't appear in the Time Machine drive selection list.
Since updating to 10.13.4, the AFP connected volume still appears in the list, but each time the backup tries to run it fails with a username/password related error. I have triple checked passwords, etc and also tried authenticating with either user/pass or AppleID/pass combos to no avail.
The initial setup stage appears to connect and verify the username/password to select the volume, but once it starts the backup, it bombs out.
I understand that AFP is being phased out. But at this stage, TM backups via SMB don't appear to be an option.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
