Time Machine over network issues

I backed up my data with TM via USB, then I connected the usb drive to my iMac in order to do backups over the network.

It worked for a while, then I re-installed Leopard due to unrelated issues.

Now, when I do the same thing, it backs up over USB fine, but when I set it up to back up over network, it tries to start a new backup, ignoring the one I had previously made.

By 'previously made' I am referring to the backup I made over USB after I re-installed Leopard.
