I use a Mac Mini as a Home Theater PC. Yesterday, after updating some programs, things started looking weird. First, the software update window for the Logitech bluetooth keyboard showed an alert about a system file that needed to be deleted and re-downloaded. Since I was in rush, I skipped it. Later in the evening, when I tried to open Hulu Desktop software, It showed up as a black screen with a tiny question mark in the middle, with no video or audio (earlier I installed an Adobe Flash update). And after that, a Time Machine window popped up, saying that there wasn't enough space in my Time Machine disk for a complete backup. It wasn't supposed to do a full backup because normally it only records the changes and leaves everything else out of the backup process. When I saw that, I opened the finder to see the disk usage and noticed that it was about 60% full as it was supposed to be. On the other hand, that used part was not visible in the finder window nor accessible by the Time Machine. I looked around to figure out what was going on and restarted the Mini a couple of times. Nothing changed, but I finally noticed that the computer's name in the finder window showed up with a "(3)" at the end ("Mac Mini (3)" instead of "Mac Mini").

I suspect the Mini boots up as a new virtual machine and as a result, can't access the previous Time Machine backups. Today when I go home, I am going to try to solve the problem but I worry about making things worse. After all, I am not a computer engineer or programmer. Does anyone have any recommendations?
