I just received my MBP back with a new hard drive and had returned most of the most essential documents back onto the new drive from the external fire-wire drive when, at the end of the day, I decided to run TC for the first time. Because I have been using the ext drive for larger files like photos, music and such, I have not transferred that data to the MBP, but had tested to make sure the crash hadn't wiped it all out.

When I started TC, it was taking forever, so I left it to run all night, but it did not seem to have advanced at all by morning. Worse yet, it seems to have made all of the important files on the ext drive inaccessible (they have little negative signs and will not open). I stopped the backup and started over and this time the BU seems to be progressing, though at a snail's pace), but am very concerned about my access to these files. Will they reappear? Has something awful happened to the only completely up to date copies I have?

Thanks for your help.

Later---seems that the BU is finished, but I still cannot get into the files I backed up before sending my computer out for repair. They still have the little minus signs on the folders and under info say that I do not have sufficient privileges?? I am the admin--what do I do. Suggestions?

Thanks--I fugured out how to change the permissions. Though I would love to know why it changed my access to my own files. Does anyone know?
