I've upgraded to Mavericks - can I continue to do time machine backups to my previous sparse bundle or do I have to start a new one.

I just upgraded and ran my first time machine backup. It was almost 13gb. Much smaller than my drive. This backed up to my existing sparse bundle. A few minutes later, I ran another back up just to see how big it would be. This time I was presented with a message saying Time Machine needed to update my backup. Time machine deleted my existing sparse bundle and has created a new one and is performing a completely new back up.

Wow interesting..... so I guess we lose all previous backups.
