I used time machine to recover my MacBook for the first time today.

It took 7 hours to install the image, but when it asked for a restart the apple logo appears with the progress bar, but it never goes beyond 50%. I have waited ages, but there is no movement. I have tried restarting several times, but the same.

I thought I should reload the image, but now command R doesn't work on boot up, so I am stuck. Anyone got any advice of what I should do please?

What OS X version was the Time Machine backup made with?

If it was later than 10.7.2 and the backup was local (like USB), you can option key boot to the Time Machine disk to get a recovery screen. From there you can use Disk Utility to erase the internal drive then restore.

But why were you doing this to begin with? Was there some other underlying problem here that may be causing the current issue?
