There's an option in AirPort Utility in the Disks tab to share the disk over WAN. This allows you to connect to your TC's HDD via AFP using your external (ISP assigned) IP address. There have been users that have had success performing remote backups using this method, but I haven't tried it myself.

How did you enable accessing the Time Capsule remotely? I have an external drive attached to my Time Capsule via USB, would I be able to access that external drive remotely as well? Thanks.

Hi all,

I have the new Time Capsule and am able to access it remotely just fine. However, because I'm stuck at school all day, I rarely get the chance to back up my Macbook Pro.

Does anyone know of a way to have Time Machine backup to a remote disk, such as my Time Capsule? (I'm a Mobile Me subscriber, by the way)

I managed to connect remotely to the disk using this thread:

However, now I’m stuck getting time machine to recognise the existing backups.

It just says “your time machine backup disk cannot be found”, even when I change the disk in TM’s options to point at the mounted volume
