Hello all, I recently tried to restore from a time machine backup on a time capsule only to have the restore fail partway though. The time capsule appears to be suffering hardware failure of some type since now it almost never successfully connects over its wireless network and cannot connect at all via USB or ethernet. Once when it did actually successfully connect I was able to grab the time machine backup package file and put it on an external hard drive. I was hoping this would let me restore from it but it is not being recognized. Any recommendations on how to unpack the backup or possible workarounds I have not thought about for the time capsule?
Thanks!

I think you can simply double-click on the pkg and it will mount on your desk top. You should be able to then access the contents inside.

The file is not a .pkg, its a single packaged backup file, double clicking on it just results in it asking what program to use to open the file

I think the file stored on time capsule is a sparse bundle file containing the backup. As a test, add the extension .sparsebundle to the package file you downloaded from the time capsule. After you do that, double click on the file and see if it mounts a disk image on your desktop.

Oh man it is now mountable, still working on seeing if I can do an automatic restore it from but the data is now there to manually track down, thanks a bunch!
