Hey MR, so I got a new 320GB 7200RPM HDD to replace current 250GB WD HDD and want to restore it from my Time Machine backup I made right before installing the new HDD. I've done this before without a hitch, but currently it's not working out so hot. I'm booting from the Restore discs and have formatted the new HDD to GUID table HFS journaled etc. I start up the restore from TM backup (from external USB HDD) and it goes but stops at 47.7%. The USB HDD shows it has stopped accessing the HDD and the light is solid green rather than blinking when it is transferring. I had to do a hard shut down and try it again, and an hour later, it freezes at the same exact spot, 47.7%, argh. Even a previous TM back up froze, this time at 8%
My question is, can I just do a fresh install from the restore disc to reinstall leopard, and then hook up the old drive I took out (it's same as when I removed it) and just copy files over, including apps etc w/o running into any issues? I know I can easily transfer documents, music, pictures, but I'm most concerned about my apps folder. Can I just copy and paste my apps from my old 250gb HDD to my new 320GB HDD that would have the fresh install of leopard in it? And I'll probably have to copy of my home library folder etc.. but will this work out fine? Basically just copy/paste my entire drive over to the new leopard file system, without the use of time machine etc. Basically raw data files over to new drive is what I'm saying. Thanks!
Or even, can I just plug in the TM backup after doing the fresh install of leopard and copy over the apps folder from my TM backup? Will that work?
