Hello,

my QNAP NAS has a Time Machine function. Sometimes it takes forever to connect to the service (currently at 22 mins, not even "preparing", just connecting). I'm using TimeMachineEditor, since my NAS is offline during the night hours (it's in my living room where I currently sleep).
I think (have to collect more data) it works faster/more reliably when invoked manually or with the normal automated schedule of Time Machine. Is there any way I can check what is the problem?

Edit:
I just skipped the Time Machine Editor planned backup and invoked it manually. Connects within 30 seconds and starts...I don't get it!

I have a QNAP in one location and a big Asustor in another, and both are slow. Worse, if you have a few terabytes on your machine it is almost impossible to get a full backup completed. It might work better with 1tb or less machines but for heavy duty work they are unreliable and, as I said, terribly SLOW. Even Internet downloads are much faster.I don't know if there is any workaround other than connecting directly to the server itself.

I also have PCs, and for some reason they both perform a hell of a lot better with a PC than a Mac. The latter seems to be, as in so many cases, a kind of afterthought in their software. I've switched to dedicated external drives for my larger machines.
