Time Machine sparse bundle inquiry

Alright so i had an issue with my uMBP 10.5.8 and restored my system to a clone about a week or two old.
which was on 10.5.7 and didnt initiate time machine until i upgraded to 10.5.8

so i wanted to save the sparse bundle to an external drive to pick apart files if i wanted to save.

so im curious if thats possible or will it corrupt the image file?
