Time Machine Stuck

Hi, I wanted to get some advice on how to fix the issue with Time Machine. I've recently got a hold of an external drive which I freshly formatted to MacOS Journaled. I've set it up with Time Machine, however it doesn't seem to progress, stuck at 1.48gb for over two hours currently. I've stopped the back up before and tried again but it keeps getting stuck at that point. I've re formatted it a few times to give it a fresh start but at no avail.

Any advice is well appreciated.
