Time Machine switcheroo

So here is my situation:

I left my Time Machine drive at school, but while I am at home I would like to use another drive temporarily for Time Machine.

Is it possible to temporarily use a hard drive that I have at home and get right back to my drive at school in a month and continue those backups, or will I have to reset everything and erase my drive at school if I tell my computer to use another drive while at home?
